Bringing Royal's Animal Farm to Life

A Journey in into 3D design & Computer Graphics.
I was presented with a unique challenge by Royal, a part of the Kraft Heinz group. The task at hand?. Named the "Animal Farm" project, its objective was clear: create 3D models of these charming creatures with a thickness of 1.2mm, suitable for injection molding and eventual sale as part of the Joyal Jello product line.

With this project, I began using Vray for Rhino

I was excited to blend creativity with precision when tasked with turning four sculpted animals into 3D models for injection molding. They needed to be just 1.2mm thick with precise internal volumes.

Back then, with my product design setup, I had my own 3D scanner. I quickly scanned these models, which were already in white, ideal for scanning. I delicately removed any unwanted clear coat to ensure top-quality scans.

Once you have the 3D point cloud data, you can start refining it to smooth out imperfections and prepare it for 3D modeling. At the time, I had an idea to create the outer shape using a series of surfaces, which were automatically generated by Geomagic Software. This approach worked perfectly; I was able to create the outer shell and trim the bottom with a plane. My plan was to then thicken it to 1.2mm and make some other small adjustments to prepare it for injection molding.
